CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS MEMBERS TO JOIN BLACK WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE
AT PRESS CONFERENCE ON GUN VIOLENCE/GUN SAFETY, IMMIGRATION REFORM AND PROTECTING THE SAFETY NET IN THE FEDERAL BUDGET

March 14, 2018 (Washington, DC) – On Thursday March 15th, from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP)’s Black Women’s Roundtable (BWR) will hold a press conference at The House Triangle on the grounds of the U. S. Capitol in Washington, DC to bring attention to gun violence/gun safety, immigration reform as it relates to its impact on Black immigrants, protecting the safety net in the federal budget that includes affordable health care, education, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. BWR attendees will be joined by a number of Congressional Black Caucus members and leaders representing the civil rights, women’s rights and social justice communities.

“The Black Women’s Roundtable is deeply concerned about the federal budget cuts proposed by the Trump Administration that would devastate poor and middle-class families,” states Melanie L. Campbell, President and CEO of the NCBCP and Convener of the Black Women’s Roundtable. Adds Ms. Campbell, “We are here to meet with our Congressional representatives from all political parties (Republicans, Democrats and Independent) representing over 20 states from across the country---to share our Black women’s policy agenda priorities and challenge them to address some of our nation’s most critical issues that impact life or death for many in our communities, especially the need for common sense gun control and safety. Also, we are calling on Congressional leaders to address immigration reform that is inclusive in addressing its impact on Black immigrants and to ensure that the federal budget does not destroy the safety net for the most vulnerable in our nation, especially our children, the poor, the mentally ill, middle class families and the elderly; and the vital need for paid family leave for all working families across the nation.”

The press conference is a part of the Seventh Annual BWR Women of Power National Summit (BWR Summit), scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th thru Saturday, March 17th, 2018. BWR Summit will take place on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC and at the Summit’s headquarters hotel, the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington, Virginia.
